Transportable Optical Clock

Optical clocks can now reach levels of accuracy at which it can be difficult to compare clocks at remote locations. In addition, it is desirable to take clocks out of the laboratory. This motivates us to build a more compact system that can be readily moved out of the laboratory.

The laser systems for lutetium are all diode laser based and, in some cases use frequency doubling. Almost all frequency doubling can be achieved using fiberized, waveguide-doublers, and the addressing of multiple hyperfine states can be achieved using fiberized, wideband electro-optic modulators. This makes the lutetium system amenable to providing a compact-transportable clock system.
