A Lutetium Ion Optical Atomic Clock
Our group plans to establish clock operation over a small ensemble of ions to improve clock stability relative to contemporary single ion approaches. Improved stability should enable us to realize the full potential of lutetium's clock properties and provide better accuracy than other leading systems. For future clock applications, we are also investigating the development of a transportable system that can be removed from the lab, and a chip-scale implementation, for which Lu+ is well suited.
